SHIRLEY WARD PANEL UPDATE
Shirley SNT Crime update for the quarter 1st April to 30th June 2010
Theft from Motor Vehicles – Total crimes for this quarter totaled 14 which show a substantial decrease when compared to the same period last year (31).
Theft of Motor Vehicles - the total of 6 vehicles stolen during the quarter remains the same as last year.
ASB – calls reporting this crime have increased. This is due to the considerable engagement by the SNT encouraging residents to report incidents. Four Anti-social Behaviour Agreements have been issued in Shirley. High Visibility patrols are continuing.
Burglaries - incidents of burglary have been rising and the Ward Panel decided to include this item as a priority.
Stop and Search/Stop and Accounts by the SNT are continuing to rise and carried out according to PACE, Section 1.

Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer
NEO Sharp has commenced working with the SNTs in Shirley and Addiscombe Wards.
SN4P - Safer Neighbourhoods for People
Children from Benson School and Spring Park School identified the play area of Shirley Recreation Ground as in need of improvement. Work on the perimeter tennis court fence was carried out by Community Payback. The children will be adding some plants around the swing park boundary.
Building Site, 73-75 Orchard Way - Cllr Janet Marshall and APS Packham are looking into the safety and security of the site during construction.
Bus Stop by Wickham Road Post Office.
The Heathfield Team agreed to monitor this area as one of their crime priorities at school exit times for the summer term.
Speed Gun Operations – following research on the main areas where speeding takes place, speed gun operations will commence shortly.
New Youth Projects organized by the SNT.
Shooting Stars commences 27th July on Tuesdays for six weeks. Funding provided by Grassroots (CVA) & Spring Park Neighbourhood Watch. MacDonald’s Restaurant donated 96 bottles of water for the sports events.
Charlton Day – a visit to The Valley by young people from Shrublands, taking place at the end of August.
